Godfrey Oboabona has denied criticising Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
The media had been awash with reports that the Nigeria international defender was critical of Wenger, after turning down a chance to have a trial with the North London club.
But the 22-year-old has denied ever making the critical statement or even receiving an offer from Arsenal.
“I never said anything about a highly respected manager like Mr Wenger showing me a lack of respect,” he says.
Oboabona’s Nigerian club Sunshine Stars have corroborated the player’s claim, insisting that there has been no approach from Arsenal for their captain, describing the scenario as a creation of the media.
“It all began in the media and ends there,” Sunshine Stars chairman Mike Idoko tells BBC Sport.
“If there was any substance to the story, we expect Arsenal would approach his club first.
“We haven’t had any official communication with Arsenal or any Premier League club about Oboabona.”
